Cyber Guardians

"Keeping Children Safe Online"

Online safety for children

In an era dominated by digital connectivity, our children get exposed to a myriad of online risks, ranging from cyberbullying and online harassment to exposure to inappropriate content. The "CyberGuardians'' project aims to address this critical issue by implementing a comprehensive online safety initiative focused on keeping children safe in the digital space.

The Goal

The goal of the Cyber Guardians is a secure online environment for children that enables a digital landscape where they can explore, learn, and interact without compromising their safety.

The Internet is a useful resource for children

The internet serves as a valuable resource for children, offering educational, social, creative, and recreational opportunities that enrich their lives and support their growth and development. However, it is essential for children to use the internet responsibly and safely, with guidance and supervision from parents, educators, and caregivers.

Risks and threats children may face online

While the internet offers an array of beneficial resources for children, its unchecked use can expose them to various risks and threats that may have long-lasting consequences. Without adequate supervision and monitoring, children may encounter harmful content or individuals online, potentially leading to lasting harm.

Leveraging Multi-Stakeholder Effort

This project focuses on a collaborative approach with multi stakeholders including, line ministries, schools, educators, parents, different communities, religious institutions, the law society, local and international NGOs concerned with children’s rights protection, media houses, tech companies and law enforcers. The collective effort from these groups is crucial in raising awareness and advocating for a safer online space for children. Join us by becoming a part of our collaborative initiative today!

Promotion of Digital Literacy Education

In the digital age, children need awareness of online risks and it's essential for them to grasp potential hazards, detect phishing, discern bias, practice online etiquette and understand online privacy. Conversely, parents and educators must acquire the skills to steer children by establishing clear boundaries, monitoring their online engagements, fostering open dialogues concerning the internet's possible advantages and pitfalls as well as its influence on attitudes and actions. Join us in promoting digital literacy education for children!

Promotion of Productive and balanced screen time

The project encourages children to use screen time productively, such as learning new skills or engaging in educational activities like digital art, coding, or producing content. At the same time, encourage striking a healthy balance between various screen-based activities (learning, entertainment, communication, etc.) and other aspects of life like exploring and participating in diverse offline hobbies and activities. This also helps minimize health related problems that arise from screen time abuse like, eyestrain, sleep disturbances and a sedentary lifestyle. Furthermore, productive and balanced screen time promotes a culture of continuous learning at a young age and this encourages curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, which are essential qualities for personal and professional growth. It is important to promote a harmonious blend of online and offline activities to create a well-rounded, healthy and balanced childhood.

Join this campaign for support to promote and practice productive and productive screen time as well as access a variety of online and offline activities for children that will contribute to their educational and overall well being.

MANAGING THREATS AND RISKS

An Incident Reporting System

Creation of a reporting system provides a structured and safe channel for victims and witnesses to report harmful incidents, enabling swift intervention and support. This approach not only deters perpetrators but also helps create a safer and more secure online environment, particularly for vulnerable individuals like children, who may otherwise fall prey to such risks. Be a part of the solution! Support the development of our structured Incident Reporting System.

Project Outcomes

  • Children will demonstrate improved digital literacy skills, including the critical evaluation of online information, significance of privacy settings and possess increased awareness of the risks associated with sharing personal data.

  • Increased utilization of educational apps and platforms by children, fostering creativity and innovation through digital tools for activities like digital art, coding, and content creation resulting in improved learning outcomes.

  • A balanced mix of offline and online activities aimed at reducing screen-related health issues among children, increasing physical activity and enhanced cognitive and social development.

  • Empowered parents and educators will more effectively oversee and guide children's screen time, leading to decreased parental anxiety about online activities and ensuring a safer and more enriching online experience for kids.

  • By boosting awareness and implementing measures like the incident reporting system, the project will significantly curtail online threats such as cyberbullying, exposure to explicit content, and exploitation, ensuring a safer online environment and holding perpetrators accountable.

  • Continuous multi stakeholder involvement in fostering a safe digital will enable the sustainability of this project.
